Summary: Perpetual derivatives and prediction markets are moving rapidly from the fringes towards the mainstream, driven by demand for continuous market exposure and new ways to trade and hedge event outcomes. What is driving the growth of these products, and what can traditional markets learn from their development? What market structure, technology and liquidity arrangements are needed to support them, and how can exchanges address surveillance and manipulation risks? How should regulators define these products, including the boundary between prediction markets, derivatives and gambling? As the regulatory framework develops, what could greater institutional adoption mean for investor protection and the role of established market operators?
