The WFE has published an Op-Ed in Barron’s titled ‘World to America: Why Are You Rewiring Your Markets?’
The SEC rushed to a vote last week to pass the first of its market data proposals, handing governance powers to big market participants; this was both precipitous and untimely under the circumstances. While exchanges support aspects of the proposals in principle, the SEC needs to think more carefully about which issues it tackles, how, and when. Where there are new costs associated with proposals—widened spreads, for example—investors will expect commensurate benefits.
