The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TWSE) launched a “Taiwan Employment Creation 99 Index” on December 30, 2010, in cooperation with Research Affiliates, LLC. The index consists of 99 listed companies in Taiwan that have created the most job opportunities for the local work force, hoping to encourage more enterprises to follow their example and better fulfill corporate social responsibility.
The constituents of Taiwan Employment Creation 99 Index were selected from 99 companies that employ the most workers among all listed companies. The higher number of employed workers weighted more on the index. The innovative screening methodology was created by Research Affiliates, LLC., and is aimed to encourage listed companies to place more emphasis on social responsibility through employing more people. The index can be licensed to issue index products, or be used as an investment benchmark.
The index was composed of 18 stocks in the banking and insurance sector, 48 electronics and technology stocks and 33 ones in the traditional industries. Among all, Cathay Financial Holdings had the highest weighting of 8.31 percent, with 43,340 employees in Taiwan.
