World Federation of Exchanges Chief Executive Officer Hüseyin Erkan to Retire

The World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), the global trade association of publicly regulated exchanges, today announced that Mr. Hüseyin Erkan, Chief Executive Officer of the WFE, will retire at the end of this month following the 54th General Assembly and Annual Meeting in Seoul, South Korea.

Strong Rebound of Equity Trading Volumes (+10%) in the first half of 2014

The World Federation of Exchanges Ltd. published its first-half Statistics Market Highlights report. The main trends for this first six months of the years were: 

  • The value of share trading rose 10% worldwide to 29.7 trillion USD from the second-half of 2013 (+6.8% year on year). 
  • The number of trades rose 10% from the second-half of 2013 (+12% year on year); the average value of trades decreased. 
  • A continuing strong performance of equity markets, Global Market Capitalization rose 6% to 68.7 trillion USD from the second-half of 2013 (+21% year on year.) 
  • Good performance of IPO markets and investment flows. The number of IPOs fell 11% compared to the second half of 2013 but increased 42% year on year. Total investment flows in USD increased 17% compared to the second-half of 2013 (+11% year on year.)

Top Exchange and Clearinghouse Leaders to Assemble in Moscow, Russia For WFE-IOMA Annual Derivatives Conference

Exchanges and clearinghouse leaders will assemble in Moscow next week for the World Federation of Exchanges' (WFE) 31st annual derivatives conference, the International Options Market Association (IOMA). The conference, which will take place 26-28 May, will be a forum for the discussion of key regulatory issues affecting the global derivatives landscape. The WFE-IOMA conference will also partner again this year with the Global Association of Central Counterparties, (CCP12) to offer a half-day of combined sessions that will focus on the new challenges facing the clearing markets.
