The complete transaction cycle, from placing of order to settlement, is fully automated. Brokers have an online connection to SEM's Automated Trading System (SEMATS) and they place buy and sell orders through workstations located in their office. When a broker places a sell order, SEMATS automatically verifies whether the securities are available in the CDS system prior to accepting the sell order in the central order book.

Settlement Cycle

The Central Depository & Settlement Co. Ltd (CDS) provides its services within an online computer system with Participants having direct online access to the system. Trades are settled within a rolling T+3 settlement cycle on a strict Delivery versus Payment (DvP) basis. Final and irrevocable transfer of funds occurs through the central bank with same-day funds on settlement date.
